Grade 9 Band is a class which meets for full band rehearsals every other day. Students attending Oak park for grade 9 also have rotating sectionals opposite of full rehearsals. Oak park grade 9 students will receive 1.5 credits for the year. The band plays a variety of musical styles in a number of different performing experiences, including concerts, festivals and contests. Band 10G students interested in jazz band should talk to Mr. Fraser about the details involved with JB 10G. It is desirable that a Band 10G student has 1-2 years of playing experience, although this is not a course requirement.
Practice Records: Here at Oak park we don't use them. You will be evaluated on your practice in other ways. If you cannot perform in class at a level where you feel comfortable then YES, you do need to practice.
Sometimes it is difficult to find the motivation to practice. Use this website to give you that motivation. Check out other tabs (such as the instrument tabs) to give you some ideas of things to practice. Aside from mastering your band music (which should be easy) there are many other things to help you get better.
Performances Check the "Calendar & Dates" under the "News & Info" tab at the top and put all concerts in your calendar. Band performances are our version of EXAMS. It would be wise to show up for your exam.
